Formentera SWRO Desalination Plant
Expansion, remodeling and exploitation of the Formentera Desalination Plant.
This facility was expanded between 2016 and 2018, from its total installed capacity of 4,000 m³/day (phase I) to 7000 m³/day (phase II).
In addition to expanding its treatment capacity, the desalination process was redeveloped, applying new technologies to obtain the highest water quality and energy saving. These include the replacement of hollow-fiber osmosis membranes with spiral-wound membranes, as well as the replacement of Pelton turbines with an isobaric chamber energy recovery system.
The treatment process consists of:
- Pretreatment by pressure filtration
- Reverse osmosis
- Energy recovery using isobaric cameras
- Remineralization by calcite beds
