Sacyr receives the Triple Seal "Calculo, Reduzco y Compenso" for the First Time
10/11/2021After having received the dual “Calculo-Reduzco” seal for three consecutive years, Sacyr obtains the “Calculo, Reduzco y Compenso” seal for the first time for compensating part of its carbon footprint through a CO2 absorption project.
This distinction, awarded by the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, recognizes Sacyr as an organization that, apart from calculating its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reduces them and goes a step farther by compensating part of its carbon footprint.
The absorption project responsible for this compensation and backed by Sacyr, takes place in Burgos, Spain. This project seeks to revitalize a deforested zone, with a high desertification risk, by eliminating erosion risks, increasing biodiversity, and improving the structure and organic matter of the soil.
In total, this project calls for the planting of more than 23 hectares of autochthonous, resilient species that will absorb more than 6,000 tons of CO2.
Sacyr is firmly committed to sustainability through its corporate 2021-2025 Strategic Plan and the Sacyr Sustainable Plan, in which the company sets its goals for preventing climate change and protecting the environment and communities where it develops its activities.
Emission compensation, apart from being beneficial to the environment, offers companies great opportunities for growth, development, and competitiveness, and is increasingly valued and requested by all stakeholders.
