Desalination for agriculture

Spain is a world leader in desalination for agriculture, with more than 20% of all desalinated water being used for this application. Sacyr Water, due to its location in south-east Spain, can be considered a world leader in the production and distribution of desalinated water for irrigation.

Pioneering examples in our country, all developed by Sacyr Water, are the Irrigation Community of Cuevas de Almanzora, the propulsion of desalinated water from Carboneras, and the advanced Águilas Desalination Plant.

Sacyr Agua is currently developing the LIFE DESEACROP project, studying the effects of desalinated water on agricultural crops and soils, enhancing and strengthening this growing business area.
